Woman fatally hit by SUV
BY MICHAEL AMON
A Baldwin woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing the street near her home, Nassau County police said Saturday.
Alicia Druminski, 53, was walking east across Grand Avenue, just north of East Carl Avenue, when a northbound 2005 Dodge Neon hit her about 9:08 p.m. Friday, police said. There is no traffic signal or crosswalk where Druminski was hit. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Neon, Peter Williams, 18, also of Baldwin, passed a field sobriety test, police said, and no summonses were issued. The Neon was impounded for safety tests, a standard procedure in fatal accidents.
Druminski was killed just two blocks from her home in the 800 block of Kings Parkway.
Her husband of 18 years, Linden Druminski, described his wife as a loving partner who enjoyed scuba diving, mountain biking and dancing to salsa music.
"She had moxie," her husband said. "She was very bubbly, just full of energy and life."
Druminski grew up with nine brothers and sisters in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, the daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants. She met Linden Druminski at a social gathering in Astoria, Queens, in 1984 and married him in 1989, her husband said.
A stay-at-home mother, Druminski had one son, a 17-year-old senior at Baldwin High School, he said.
"Family was a big part of her life," Linden Druminski said.
Linden Druminski added that he could not talk about the circumstances of the accident.
