ask, and thou shalt receive (nb. I don't subscribe to any Dolan properties, I just use the credentials of elderly, non technical relatives for access!)
In Gordon Heights, two outsiders who want to dissolve Long Island's most highly taxed fire district beat three opponents, two of whom were incumbents, in elections Tuesday.
"We're going to work at getting equitable taxes, even if we have to work within the district," said Maryanne Owens, who beat Patricia Wilson-Brown for a one-year seat.
Voters in 120 Long Island fire districts went to the polls Tuesday to elect commissioners. Races were contested in at least 41. Voters also selected commissioners in more than 50 other special districts, at least nine of which were contested.
In many races, taxes were foremost on candidates' minds.

Wading River, where five candidates ran on tax-freeze agendas for two spots, saw its biggest turnout: 701 residents, the district manager said.
"I just want to thank everyone for their support in coming out and voting for me," said James Meier, who beat Michael Harrigan and Robert Quaranta. For the other seat, Edward Frost beat Matthew Colitti.
In the other Gordon Heights race, Alex Hanson, husband of district anti-tax advocate Rosalie Hanson, beat incumbents Frank Swinton and Phillip Gordon for a five-year term.
In other races:
COLD SPRING HARBOR: Tom Giarraputo became the second newcomer in as many years to win a seat, defeating Salvator Spina. "I think people are tired of the same-old same-old," he said. "People want our officials to have a more watchful eye on spending."
SYOSSET: Giovanni Graceffa took a novel approach to campaigning. "I sent out a personal message to almost everybody in my Facebook account," said Graceffa, who beat incumbent Daniel Percell.
SETAUKET: Gregory Perricone beat fellow department member Paul DiBiase for a five-year seat. "I look to be that voice of reason, a pragmatic voice that says, 'Do we really need to do this? Do we really need to spend money on this?' " Perricone said.
LEVITTOWN: Outgoing fire chief George Anderson beat 30-year incumbent Frank J. Scarangella. A proposition to make the treasurer position appointed instead of elected was defeated.
RIDGE: In a three-way battle, incumbent Pasquale Pirozzi Jr. defeated Robert F. Leonhardt and Louis Brand.
GREAT NECK WATER POLLUTION CONTROL: Incumbent E. Jane Rebhuhn defeated Edna Guilor-Segal.
ROCKY POINT: Stephen Tumulty defeated fellow volunteer Thomas Logan.
TERRYVILLE: Bernard Reynolds defeated fellow volunteer James Guma.
STONY BROOK: Incumbent Ernest C. Behnke defeated Vincent Franco. Voters approved a proposition to authorize the board to allow firefighters to join the length-of-service awards program at age 17.
EATONS NECK: John V. Alessi beat Edward A. Carr.
CENTER MORICHES: Incumbent John D. Delong defeated James Nizza.
CENTERPORT: Henry Kurt Martin beat James C. Varese and Andrew J. Knoph.
BRIDGEHAMPTON: Voters approved a proposition to establish a building renovation capital reserve fund to pay for an addition, reconstruction and improvements to the existing firehouse.
DEER PARK: Incumbent Andrew Duguid beat Chris Schiavo.
EAST NORTHPORT: Incumbent Robert Sagistano beat Edward Mankuski.
HEWLETT BAY: John Caracciola unseated incumbent Daniel Weisner.
MANHASSET-LAKEVILLE: Ex-chief Brian Morris beat incumbent Robert DeVito.

Re: Fire District Election Vote 2011
I was reading everyone's favorite newspaper a few weeks back and they had a small summery about each department for the upcoming elections. For Hicksville it says that there is a proposition on the ballot to sell a pumper worth more than $50,000. I was wondering if it passed? Does anyone happen to know which rig they are looking to sell? Or are they talking about selling the old 938?
