I think hes saying that if it were at 2am, nobody would have been driving by to report the smoke, and by the time Firecom got it, it would have been running the cockloft.

Good points. But could we use another word other then the fire would have been going better. I'm sure the Sons of Italy would not have thought it was better.

Man torches lodge to hide robbery attempt
BY JOHN VALENTI
Newsday Staff Writer

To hide a robbery, he torched the place, police said.
All of which got Louis W. Capone, 28, of Valley Stream, arraigned Friday morning in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of third-degree burglary and third-degree arson, Nassau County Police said.
The burglary -- and the arson -- occured at the Order of the Sons of Italy of America Per Sempre Lodge #2344 on Sunrise Highway in Lynbrook sometime around 7 p.m. Wednesday. It was then police said that Capone, who is a member of the lodge, broke into the building knowing "several thousand dollars" were kept on the unoccupied premesis.
Police said Capone stole "several hundred" dollars. Then, a police spokesman said, he set a fire near a hall closet -- in order to cover up his crime.
Forty firefighters and six fire trucks from the Lynbrook Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.
But the fire caused "thousands of dollars" of damage, police said, and was deemed suspicious. Investigators from the Nassau County Fire Marshal's office later determined it was "incendiary by nature."
Police did not say what led them to Capone, who was arrested late Thursday. He could not be reached for comment. My opinions and postings are MINE and MINE alone, and unless otherwise noted or specified, they do not reflect my Department,Company,Employer or Battalion..
