    Default Minitor 1

I've been looking to buy a minitor 1, just for the collection value of it. I found a set of 2 on e-bay, low band, currently set to 46.44. Does anyone know if there are still places that would program it to 46.10 for me?

Some one correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the minitor 1's have crystals and can not be programed by conventional means. Your best bet would be a motorola dealer.. but maybe someone here has a better solution for you

You might want to check with Firefighter's equipment of new york, that guy of hempstead tpke in Franklin Square, I think someone in my department got one done there..

correct eric, the min 1 & 2 (aka the best) use crystals.

The min 3 (aka shit) 4 (ok) & 5 (pretty good) are computer programmed.

I have an old Motorola pager but it doesn't look like the conventional Minitor 1 does anyone know what it can be? it is a little smaller I wish i could find it to get a picture...

Also here is my problem with the Minitor IV and V, the Minitor III was release in what? 1999 roughly? and the Minitor V was released in 2004 or 2005? you are telling me in that time they couldn't make a smaller unit? the pager has only gotten bigger and heavier over the years. Now from my understanding the biggest part of the pager is the speaker, but with advancements in today's technology I am sure /\/\ can slim down the pager and cut some of the weight. Intel has just created a processor that is the size of a nickle, if that can be done I am sure Motorola can find a way to slim down a basic alerting device look how far cell phones have come.

    Rant over...

    lol

    i don't disagree
the Mini IV was slimmer than the Mini IV
they really need to find a way to be able to make that thing smaller.
    i don't disagree
i've seen them get bigger also.
Then again there are always text pagers that departments can use too.

Many departments are now using this as a second means of alerting members to a call, a text is automatically sent out via their dispatch software weather it be red alert or fire tracker. The only problem with this is there is no carrier that will guarantee delivery of the text message. How many times have you never gotten a text message a friend said they sent you? same applies here, I wouldn't want to count it as a primary means but it is a great backup. I believe Roslyn Highlands was one of the first to give their members pagers and text pagers to receive call information.

One concern is that during a disaster, cell networks could become overloaded and pages wont go through. For instance, during 9/11 and the blackout in 2003, it was very difficult to get connected on a cell phone or send texts out, since everyone was on their phones at the same time.

Do you know if I could change the crystal in a Minitor 1 myself? I know with the IIs you need a dealer to do the crystal, but you can change out the tone reeds.

I believe it involves soldering the crystal down to the board, you do not want to undertake that yourself unless you have experiance, or you just don't care about the pager. Moto stopped making the crystals and tone reeds a while ago you will need to find dealer who stockpiled them and has the $10,000 worth of test equip. to first put in the crystal and then adjust it to the propper freq.

If anyone needs it I am more than happy to program Minitor III, IV & V and CDM1250/HT1250 series for a nominal fee.....

A Minitor 1 belongs in the Nassau County firemen's museum. Minitor 5 is the way to go.

except Motorola can't seem to work out the kinks with their chargers, they have now stopped selling the newest one the "C" model for an undisclosed reason. Ready for round 4?

Out here in Pennsyltucky, our alpha pagers are tied directly to the 911 center. There is no middleman like Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, etc. The pager looks exactly like the usual alpha you'd get. When county dispatches, it goes straight to your pager immediately, over an 800MHz freq. I've never noticed a lag between the audibles and my pager going off---actually I believe the audibles are triggered over the same 800MHz frequency. It works well, we don't even have traditional voice pagers.

The DOWNSIDE is that you have to stop and read the message, which can be a few "pages" long. It starts with location, municipality, nature of call, map/box/plan number, additional, and trucks to respond. It's a real PITA to read the call while you're running down your stairs or driving to the station. Much nicer to just be able to listen as you go.

I had a Minitor II for 15 years before the speaker went. My department said no to repairing it and issued me a Minitor V. All I can say is I miss my II. I am on my second charger that doesn't work properly.

The pager system in MONTCO is actually a VHF system, ~152MHz, the 2-way communications go out over 800MHz and the tones drop, usually, over a ~46.00MHz simulcast. As long as the towers are intact and MCEDS doesn't get blown up they have the ability to send the pager message out over their systems off of their towers. It is grea to have additional info and notes on a call, address reference and sometimes even a callback number sent right to your pager. And btw, everyone is on the same system, Alpha and otherwise everyone does what the county says they are doing, no questions asked, and thats the way it should be.

I had the II for years, walked in to the Chiefs office one morning to see if there were any extra batteries for it and was handed a pager info card. Chief told me to fill it out and then handed me a V. The V isn't that bad, sometimes it is clear as anything, other days, can't hear anything. I miss my II......always picked up transmissions and it was loud and clear!!!!
