Ok, so we know Wantagh is getting 3 new engines. Who else has new apparatus plans in the works for 2014?

Anymore why Woodmere is replacing their rescue with a light rescue instead of a heavy with a walk in, just curious?

I found out that the engine will not be replacing the rescue although their rescue is out due to storm related mechanical issues.

They are currently looking to replace the rescue in the near future.

The old heavy rescue was 23yrs old and needed a replacement. We did an objective needs assessment which influenced the decision. Major factors included the cost of like replacement 700K+, maintenance costs, staffing (qualifying on an F550 widens the driver pool), and space within the firehouse. The ESU-style rig can carry all of our vehicle extrication equipment and power tools, along with 4 members. It can support flood/water rescue and be first out on CO alarms. Any prolonged and complex operation will involve mutual aid - and there are 5 boroughs worth 35 foot rescue rigs within 8 miles.

Why wouldn't you send a rescue truck to a CO call? As long as you have CO meters, fans with a generator to handle the two fans, and your basic ems gear on the truck that is all you really need for a CO run.

Just think engines should go first especially when you are out of 1 house.

UPDATES: Three of the four Long Beach engines are now listed on the In Production page at Ferrara, as is Hicksville's engine at Spartan ERV. And, a new Pierce of some sort has started production for Hempstead.

Wow...another great (and historically significant) Mack going by the wayside. Hope it goes to a collector, unlike a few of the others.
