Sea Cliff Fire Department began their Rescue Squad sometime around or before the Second World War. Before they got an ambulance, they had what I believe was called a "Packard Touring Car". It had been a donated vehicle with large white wall tires that were bulletproof. Essentially an open cab; converted vehicle that may have been used as a floodlight as well. ("You Don't Know About That" would have better access to more accurate information.) Anyway, when they began the rescue squad back in the day, this vehicle was converted and the back area was lined with rubber matting to make a 'transport compartment' if needed. Along with a stretcher and some first aid equipment, the vehicle was fabricated and began responding to ambulance calls in the village and surronding areas. Glen Cove Hospital operated an ambulance for some time, however there is documentation that on several occasions patients were transported in this vehicle.

    Tip Correction.

This was actually a Chevrolet, used as a rescue truck for members only. Was sold to an oil company in Suffolk who was going to restore it as one of their original service trucks.

Anyone interested in a 1967 S&S hightop Cadillac Ambulance? (Pictures coming soon.) It runs (barely) has a solid frame (rusty body) and was the most expensive ambulance built in model year 1967. Original patient compartment intact. Needs frame-off restoration. Currently registered historical. I'll consider donation to a volunteer/charitable organization that will provide me a tax write-off, or outright sale. The vehicle is in Bellerose on the Nassau/Queens line. Email: MJB1337@aol.com Subject: Cadillac Ambulance ...Thanks!
